Mechanics & Preparation
Mythic raiding requires an intense attention to detail, awareness of the space and players around you, communication with fellow raid members, and being able to follow directions -- all while performing at a high level within your spec.
First things first - you should know the fight BEFORE you get to raid. Watching videos is usually the best way to learn. Top tier Mythic progression guilds often make guides, and FatBossTV on YouTube is Horsemen Elite's go-to for these videos. In this way, we can mimic the strategy performed by these guilds to progress on, and eventually kill the boss.
Watch videos for each difficulty - the boss' abilities will change somewhat between the difficulties. If mechanics in a lower difficulty are killing you fairly often, you probably could use more fight knowledge. If you're trying to show raid leaders that you are ready for Mythic, you shouldn't be dying to Heroic mechanics.
Many more casual raiders are afraid to ask questions because they think it will show a lack of knowledge about the fight. Some questions don't pop up in your head until you're standing in front of the boss - some things you thought you understood about the fight will feel unclear after the raid wipes to it, or after a few attempts.
Raid leaders generally will rather you ask questions --especially if they will help you survive, prevent you from hindering the rest of the raid's ability to succeed, or help you perform better -- than to make mistakes that could have been prevented. Ask questions before the first pull if you don't know instead of making assumptions about the fight. You should have already watched the video and have a decent idea. Use your dungeon journal to pull up the abilities of the fight to refresh yourself - note which ones have a skull by them - meaning you could cause your own death or the raid to wipe if you fail that mechanic.
The better you know the fight, the better you can perform. And the better you are performing - both on the damage meters and mechanically - the more desirable of a raid member you will be.
Many of our Mythic raiders either do, or will stream our Mythic progression if you ask. How better to be prepared to raid with us than to watch us, view our strategy, and see how we are performing?
A good way to get an understanding of preparation before a raid would be to read our Raider Guidelines. You will find a lot about what's expected of a Mythic raider there, what they bring to raid, and what kinds of behaviors aren't acceptable in Mythic raid.
Ultimately, your attitude, dependability, and actual ability to demonstrate your high skill level are what will get you into Mythic raid. Just about anyone can prepare themselves and their character to be ready if they are willing to put in the effort.
